Mihir

Penultimate Electrical & Electronic Engineering Student @ UoA

From post-natural-disaster communication research and field testing across New Zealand to video games, embedded systems, and autonomous hardware, I sit somewhere between code, circuits, and coordination. In my free time, I volunteer as a pro-bono consultant at Impact Consulting Group.

Field-testing the limits of caffeine-induced productivity, deadlines, and sleeping in, I sit somewhere between a breakdown, a breakthrough, and a battery warning. In my free time, I consult my bank account on where all the money went. (I'm just joking).

Research Assistant

Over a year, I investigated the feasibility of LoRa technology as an alternative to Internet-based methods for transmitting building instrumentation data following an extensive earthquake sequence. I led an operation spanning across Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland, carrying out dozens of hands-on field tests to assess performance and reliability. Turning findings into actionable insights, I authored a research paper (yet to be published) and curated a poster presented at the QuakeCoRE 2024 Annual Meeting. I acquired valuable technical writing, data analysis, and research communication skills through this disaster resilience contribution

Summer Intern

Nov 2023 - Feb 2024 · 4 months

I gained hands-on experience in research design, technical analysis, and problem-solving by contributing to innovative communication technology research for post-natural-disaster scenarios. Collaborating with several interns and with the potential to enhance post-disaster communication, I explored and tested the capabilities and conditions LoRa modules could showcase and endure, engaging with both the theory behind the devices and practical programming. This work entailed planning, coordinating, conducting field tests, and analysing performance data to improve community resilience strategies. I also engaged with stakeholders to align the findings with practical needs and presented insights to an academic audience.
